And the “surprise” book is: Lucid Food: Cooking for an Eco-Conscious Life by Louisa Shafia (Ten Speed Press, $22.50, paperback).
This cookbook, by the Brooklyn-based sustainable chef and National Gourmet Institute graduate, appeared on several cookbook gift lists last year, including Saveur‘s and the Washington Post‘s.
The ex-NPR editor and former actor has done stints at the gourmet vegetarian restaurant Millenium in San Francisco and Marcus Samuelsson’s aclaimed Aquavit in New York.
Read a review of Shafia’s book here and a Q&A with the author at Serious Eats.
A stylish, elegant and seasonally-oriented cookbook from a fellow kale lover.

Am I the “Barbara” who won? Thank you! I have emailed you my contact info!
Sorry for the false alarm, Barbara, but it was another commenter with the same name who won this time around. But I recognize you as a winner on a cookbook giveaway from earlier this year.
Heading to the post office today — have heard from 10 out of 12 of you — hoping those last two stragglers email me before I join the line.
